Ripping CDs is easy with foobar2000, and has I think two advantages on Winamp:

Windows Media Player can rip the CD with default settings or select Rip settings to change how the CD will be copied to the computer. Go to Rip settings Format to choose an audio format. The first several are Windows Media Audio formats, followed by MP3 and WAV. Select the format for the copied music.

Install:
1. You can automatically retrieve the tag data from the FreeDB database, but it needs a component which is included in the full install of foobar2000. Run the installation file (foobar2000_0.9.5.4.exe) once again.
Go Next, Accept, Next. Then chose 'full' in the type of install.
2. If you want to rip in MP3, you will need the LAME commandline mp3 encoder. It's an exe file you can download from here.
Extract the LAME zip file into foobar2000 folder (C:Program Filesfoobar2000 probably)
3. Go to Menu>File>Preferences, Tools/Converter. In the first field (file name), you may want to put the following code or similar:
[%album artist%]%date% - %album%%list_index% - %title%
This will make files in the format, for example: AnyfolderRadiohead1997 - OK Computer01 - Paranoid Android.mp3
Adjust it to your preferences.

Now rip!
1. Insert an audio CD
2. Menu>File>Open Audio CD, then 'Rip' (or 'Play' if you want)
3.Click the 'Lookup' button to retrieve tag data. Some data should be found. Chose one line and click 'Update files'
4. Click Rip, chose MP3 Lame as an encoder (or whatever you wish), and indicate to foobar2000 where you put the exe file extracted from the LAME zip (you will just have to this once).
5. Chose a folder. The files will be put in a subfolder of that one ('artist/year - album/' if you used my settings in step 2)

Winamp is a powerful free media player for Windows and Android. How to rip CD with Winamp

First, install and download Winamp and the best codecs to work with Winamp, such as the K-Lite Codec Pack. Insert the music CD into your computer's hard drive and run Winamp.

1. Click 'View' > 'Media Library' to open Winamp Media Library. On the left bar, you will see 'Audio CD (E:)'. Click on it and you will see all the songs on the CD displayed on the primary window of Winamp. Then click the 'Rip' button at the bottom of the window and choose 'CD ripping preferences' to set the output file settings.

2. Go to the 'output file settings' tab to choose the destination folder to save the ripped tracks and set the filename. And in the 'Encoder' tab, select the codec you want to use when ripping. You can either choose MP3 or MP4, which are supported by most MP3 players. If you want to play the tracks on your computer, you can choose OGG, which provides the best sound quality.

3. Now click the 'Rip' button again. You have two choices for CD ripping: Rip all tracks and rip selected tracks. If you just want to rip a few tracks, you can click on them (Hold down the Ctrl key and click one multiple songs.) and then click 'Rip' and choose 'Rip selected tracks' to rip the selected songs.

Winamp will show you the ripping process with the status updated every second. The finished songs will be labeled as 'Complete' and pending tracks will be labeled as Pending. After Winamp finished the CD ripping process, it will show you the track list. You can just find the songs in your defined output folder.

Tips:
